Winston Churchill school opened in 1950, and was named after one of the great statesmen in world history. Winston Churchill reached the height of his fame as the heroic Prime Minister of Great Britain during World War II.
For the first fourteen years (1950-1964) W. C. P. S. was a Kindergarten to grade 8 school.
Between 1964 and 1982, it had classes for Kindergarten to Grade 6. In September 1982 classes were extended to include Grade 7, and then to Grade 8 in September, 1983. In September, 1990 Junior Kindergarten was introduced.
In 1976 the Developmental Centre was built as an extension to the school. This facility is a separate entity at the present time.
The school itself underwent a major expansion during the 1982-83 and the gymnasium, change rooms, three classrooms, a library and a staff room were added. The Port a Pack, which included five new classrooms and a new primary entrance, was completed for September 1990.
Primary playground equipment was donated by our PALS organization (Parents Assisting in Learning Students) in 1998 and the junior playground equipment was completed in the spring of 2000.
